11th August: Beach Day and Crazy Night

Today was pretty laid back, I slept most of the morning and then had a bit of a mad rush to get all my stuff back in the rucksack (I seem to literally empty it to find the simplest thing every time I set it down). I moved into my shared room, which was just next door thank fuck, my rucksack is killing my back! I should have gone back to the gym before I came out here, that may have prepared me a bit better.

After I met the girl I'm sharing with we chilled and watched Ridiculousness on MTV, then when she fell asleep I went out exploring, meaning I made a beeline for the beach, of course! When I got there it was pretty nice all white sand and blue ocean.... Plus a whole load of seaweed, that I did not care for. Apparently the ocean here and wildlife is still suffering from the BP oil spill a few years back and this is a consequence of it. There were drunk people actually using it to prop themselves up and drink beer on the piles, yh I stayed well clear of that...

When the heat got too much for me I wandered back inland and had a look around the shops, the people were really friendly and although there was a lot of people saying to come into there shop I didn't feel particularly pressured compared to Egypt where they literally grab your arm and drag you in haha. I bought a hippy rucksack; which matches my camera strap of course haha. I found a tequila bottle in the shape of a skull (SO ME, I KNOW) I was so so tempted to buy it but it was ridiculously heavy and it was only my first day so I left it :(

I returned to the room and quite soon after it was time to go meet the group, everyone was lovely and after we filled out all the forms and waivers (saying goodbye to our right to complain if we lose a limb) we went to dinner. I got tostadas topped with guacamole and vegetables, nom, we hung out and chatted for a while then people started filtering out.

This is when I should have gone home -_-

So when we were all walking back through all the shops, a couple of people mentioned going to a bar that had swings in it. It was awesome! We all sat around the bar swinging and drinking strawberry daiquiris, despite the humidity it is just as easy to get brain freeze by the way and twice as easy to get drunk. Afterwards we headed to another bar, had a couple of daiquiris and got our photo printed on a tequila bottle! I've got some wicked photos in this bar on my camera and my phone. They had bras hanging from the ceiling (mine stayed firmly on) and they had every flavour daiquiri in big slushy machines. That was fun and we met an Italian man called Roberto, who lived in Hendon for seven years, small world haha.

When we finished me and a couple of the girls decided to head to a club, it was then on the way that I realised my phone was missing, we rushed back to the bar to see if I'd left it there but they said nothing had been left. Most people will know that my phone is an extension of me so I'd never leave it lying around. I suppose it's best not to dwell on the material things but I had some really good photos on there haha and you never know when you might need a phone. After that we decided to drown my sorrows and since we seemed to get free entry in all the clubs we tried, we partied hard and got home at 5am.
